Translation Process
Jai Shri Mataji
Welcome to the Language Translation Guide for ShriMataji.org
The instructions provided here serve as a structured guide for both professional translators and individuals new to translation work, particularly on WordPress. There are 2 main sections which are briefly described below.
Section I is divided into five parts (see below) covering #1) Translation, #2) Setup and Updating Site, #3) Graphics, #4) Logos (only required for non-Latin language versions) and #5) Video subtitling. A list of the STANDARD text defaults used on the site can be found in the Appendix section.
Once all major translation tasks have been completed, the Translation Checklist - Google Sheets can be used for a final site review and confirmation of task completion to the website team for migration of the test site to PRODUCTION (end user site).
Section II contains some useful items such as Video tutorials, Important documents, Error reporting and FAQ, which will be helpful to review as you proceed with the translation and site update work.
The main task is translation, which is described in detail in #1 Translation options below. Other tasks can be done in parallel, depending on the resources available at your end. For any specific assistance, please email translation@shrimataji.org
Section I
Language translators can use either Option A/B/C (see below) or any other appropriate translation option. Option A is a recommended translation method for the site, based on previous experience of translators working on the site. (For support contact: translation@shrimataji.org).
A) Translation using Google Spreadsheet link - Sample ShriMataji.org translation - automated - Google Sheets
This spreadsheet has the entire content (all site pages, pdfs, banner text, buttons, additional texts, image caption, Chakra Chart + Meditation Man text etc.)*
NOTE: Please use the following Google Doc link - ShriMataji.org - tracking content change (post 21.3.2023) - Google Docs to track ongoing changes (post 21.3.23) to the EN content pages that are not mapped to either the above Google Sheet link or the documents provided under section B (see below).
Procedure -
- Make a copy of the Google Spreadsheet link - Sample ShriMataji.org translation - automated - Google Sheets to your local G-Drive folder (you might have already received a local language version copy of this sheet in a prior communication and can continue to use the same).
- Insert the destination language on the Settings page (the 1st page on the sheet with the lock symbol).
- Use the dropdown menu in cell B1 to choose your destination language (all the languages that are available along with the designated language code can be found in columns D & E)
- Wait for 5 minutes till all the pages are translated.
- Review each page by comparing the Original (English) text in Column A versus automated translated text (= Google Translate) in Column B and update the final text in column C, which is the main column of the final text that would go into the website.
- Update the page Content Status (column C and if necessary column D as applicable - as this helps you to keep track of the teamwork and progress)
- Column E is automatically updated as soon as enter the translation texts in the respective Google Sheets for the site pages.
- NOTE: If you are NOT USING Google Spreadsheets for translations (i.e., you are using other translation routes for directly updating your language version on the site), please provide the translated page Title for creating the menus (for assistance, please email: translation@shrimataji.org)
A-ii)Translating PDF's linked on the site - Please download (or make a copy on your G-drive) for the following documents (either the Pdf or the Word doc) and translate them into your local languages - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1_AaOXevwJUpjCQlKpmFGZwmIh-nZOZ85?usp=drive_link
Note: To keep the actual main style of the document (and aligned to the website text-font-style), the only important point is that those doing the actual Word-Document translations should install the font (as provided on the FONT folder on G-drive) on their own computer before working on these Word documents.
B) Using the entire site - i) printouts or ii) transcriptions -
- Printout of the complete site as pdf - Site Download.pdf - Google Drive
- Transcription of site pages under all the menus and sub-menu as Google-Docs folder [Master EN pages] - Master EN pages - ShriMataji.org - Google Drive
C) Online translation using Google website link - Google Translate will translate the entire English website to the targeted language. Translators can use any other options that best suit an online translation in their regional language.
Note: The completion of Tasks #1, #2, #3 and #4 (only if applicable) will conclude the language translation work on the test site. Task #5) Video subtitling, can continue in parallel, even after the language version test site has been migrated to the PROD site.
