En 1883, mientras pasaba por las \u00faltimas etapas de su embarazo, Sakhubai perdi\u00f3 a su marido en circunstancias tr\u00e1gicas. Amenazada por sus parientes (que no toleraban el hecho de que \u00e9l y su familia fueran cristianos), una noche de fuertes lluvias debido al monz\u00f3n, tom\u00f3 a sus cuatro hijos y huy\u00f3 a pesar de la crecida de un r\u00edo cercano.<\/p>\nSakhubai ten\u00eda tanta fe que, a pesar del r\u00edo inundado, la lluvia torrencial, su condici\u00f3n f\u00edsica y de ir vestida con un sari de casi 9 metros, ella y sus hijos lograron cruzar el r\u00edo, siguiendo despu\u00e9s un camino de 8 kil\u00f3metros hasta la estaci\u00f3n de tren m\u00e1s cercana. Al amanecer, abordaron el tren hacia Ujjain, para llegar a la casa de su hermano. Bajo esas dif\u00edciles circunstancias naci\u00f3 Prasad Rao Salve, el padre de Shri Mataji.\n\t<p>Acostumbrados a una vida de riqueza y tranquilidad, Sakhubai y sus hijos tuvieron que adaptarse a una frugalidad extrema. Sin embargo, para Sakhubai la educaci\u00f3n de sus hijos era esencial y les inculc\u00f3 un esp\u00edritu de sacrificio y compromiso. Cuando ya no quedaba queroseno en casa, deb\u00edan seguir con sus estudios bajo la luz de las farolas callejeras.<\/p>\n<p>Prasad Rao, el m\u00e1s joven, fue un estudiante particularmente brillante y recibi\u00f3 becas a lo largo de su carrera acad\u00e9mica. Estudi\u00f3 derecho y se uni\u00f3 a una reconocida firma en la ciudad de Chindwara. Se cas\u00f3 poco despu\u00e9s, pero tristemente, enviud\u00f3 a la edad de 37 a\u00f1os, con cinco hijos. Tambi\u00e9n fue una estudiosa de s\u00e1nscrito y era muy versada en la antigua cultura india. Debido a su alto nivel de educaci\u00f3n, a su padre le resultaba dif\u00edcil encontrar un esposo para ella con una educaci\u00f3n, si no superior, por lo menos equivalente.<\/p>\n<p>A trav\u00e9s de amigos mutuos, Prasad Rao envi\u00f3 una propuesta de matrimonio a Cornelia y a su padre. No fue una decisi\u00f3n f\u00e1cil aceptar la propuesta de un viudo con cinco hijos. Sin embargo, ella qued\u00f3 impresionada tanto por su inteligencia como por su fe en Dios y sinti\u00f3 una profunda compasi\u00f3n por sus hijos, quienes se quedaron sin madre a una edad tan joven. ES SORPRENDENTE C\u00d3MO ES TAN SAHAJ. <\/div><\/div>\n\t<p>Prasad Rao y Cornelia compart\u00edan un profundo amor por su pa\u00eds y por su gran tradici\u00f3n espiritual y de valores. Su hija Nirmala ten\u00eda s\u00f3lo dos a\u00f1os de edad en 1925 cuando conocieron a Mahatma Gandhi por primera vez, y esta reuni\u00f3n tuvo un enorme impacto en ellos.
