Responsibility For Women

“Men are responsible for politics and economics of the country, but women are responsible for the society.” The stabilitiy of a society, according to Shri Mataji, rests on the strength of its women.  Their ability to manifest deep motherly love and concern for others is a quality well-suited for taking up responsible roles in society. Shri Mataji urged that women need not stay within closed doors but can and should participate in all areas of society.

Many of the social and economic problems that societies face today are caused by greed and materialism. Materialism is an incorrect attitude towards matter. “Matter has its own purpose. One should not be ruled by matter.” Matter serves to give us joy.  If we see a beautiful piece of art, for example, we can admire it, but we do not need to own it. Or if we give someone a gift as an expression of our love, we use the matter in an appropriate way, and we feel true satisfaction beyond the transitory pleasure of buying and owning.

MEN ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR POLITICS AND ECONOMICS OF THE COUNTRY, BUT WOMEN ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SOCIETY.

As well as creating several international schools, Shri Mataji founded many non governmental organizations, including the Vishwa Nirmala Prem Ashram for destitute women and young orphans near Greater Noida, India.

This establishment provides a safe haven for those neglected by society. Its residents are embellished with love, compassion and dignity in a way that makes them capable of facing worldly challenges. They are also taught the art of invoking inner peace, balance and tolerance for the self and for each other.

Touched by the plight of those destitute women, Shri Mataji encouraged women, through her teachings, to become strong pillars of society. “Women have a full right to participate as equal partners in every aspect of life - social, cultural, educational, political, economical, administrative and the rest,” Shri Mataji says. “In order to prepare themselves for this all-pervading role, they must have the right to education in all branches of knowledge. But if they are mothers, they have a great responsibility towards their children as well as their society.”

Thus Shri Mataji stressed the need to develop emotional intelligence. “Until and unless we become emotionally intelligent, our society will not improve. In emotional intelligence, you can enjoy caring. You’re doing everything for others.”

UNTIL AND UNLESS WE BECOME EMOTIONALLY INTELLIGENT, OUR SOCIETY WILL NOT IMPROVE.

During the course of the 40 years since beginning Sahaja Yoga, Shri Mataji’s life was a perfect example of  living for the betterment of humanity. She traveled continuously around the globe to nurture and inspire the spirit of the human race and bring emancipation from within.
